Electropolishing assessment & quotations

Assess treatment requirements based on the material and surface condition.

01

Conventional electropolishing and precision SMT

Conventional electropolishing and SMT both use electrochemical action, but serve different levels of surface refinement. Electropolishing is the conventional polishing process; KUN-QI’s SMT focuses on finer surface micro-treatment for exceptionally demanding finish requirements. Conventional electropolishing should not be presented as equivalent to SMT in surface refinement.

02

Complex geometries and small components

The supplied technical material identifies thin-walled components, small parts and shapes that are difficult to reach mechanically as potential applications. Evaluation considers geometry, accessible areas and dimensional requirements.

03

Surface refinement and dimensional control

Based on KUN-QI’s practical processing experience, conventional electropolishing may cause dimensional reduction of 0.02 mm (20 µm) or more under specific material, component and process conditions. This is not a fixed outcome of all electropolishing processes. Existing surface irregularities or corrosion marks may become more pronounced after treatment. KUN-QI’s SMT focuses on demanding precision surface requirements, improving Ra surface roughness while aiming to preserve component dimensions as far as possible.

Start with your requirements

Electropolishing is presented within Other Surface Treatment Enquiries, separately from KUN-QI’s two core technologies: SMT and passivation.

For ASTM B912 stainless steel passivation by electropolishing enquiries, please provide the specified revision, material, component condition and acceptance criteria. Feasibility and scope must be agreed before work is accepted. Passivation by electropolishing and chemical passivation are distinct treatment routes.
